How does Therapy work?

My therapeutic approach is integrative. This means I use many different techniques to obtain an understanding of you. We look at your current problems, thoughts and emotions as well as past experiences and how they have affected your way of being and doing.

We then set therapeutic goals and find ways for you to challenge your unhealthy thinking patterns and change behaviours by focussing on problem solving and developing new skills. You will learn to express, accept and regulate emotions.

Therapy is not an instant cure but rather a process. This process is different for all individuals and each person experiences therapy uniquely. The process starts with an initial session where my goal is to get to know you, to understand how I might help you. I will, therefore, ask you many questions on which you can freely express.

There is no prescribed amount of sessions and it depends on every individual the period you will need to continue in therapy. When you can cope with the problems you initially expressed without additional assistance you are ready to end the therapy process.

This process is followed in different contexts such as:

  • Individual Psychotherapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Family and Marital Counselling

Therapy-related specific problems include:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Addictions
